Ron Kanter is a senior practitioner in the areas of municipal, land use
planning, environmental and business immigration law.
Municipal & Planning Law
Ron represents owners, developers, institutions and residents before municipal
councils, the Ontario Municipal Board and the courts on municipal, planning and
building matters. He resolves planning disputes ranging from severances and
variances involving several lots to complex large scale developments involving a
wide range of private and public sector interests.
Ron recently won approval for condominium development in Toronto’s West Queen
West Triangle, commercial development in Scarborough, single family homes in
Niagara Region, recreational properties in Parry Sound and partial relief from
development charges in Brampton. Ron also acts as an arbitrator for the Tarion
New Home Warranty Program.
Environmental Law
Ron has overseen complex environmental assessments for large financial and
transportation companies. He has expedited the development of a large
subdivision and golf course in proximity to former waste disposal sites. Ron is
also familiar with proposed changes to brownfield remediation for residential
and commercial projects.
Business Immigration
Ron has obtained work, student, permanent residence and citizenship status in
Canada for citizens from many other countries. He is knowledgeable about new
provincial nominee as well as traditional federal programs. Ron has also
obtained US work permits for Canadians and other citizens involved in
manufacturing, technology, consulting, speaking and other activities.
Professional Activities and Community Service
Ron is the Chair of the Toronto Board of Trade Infrastructure Committee, and a
member of the Land Use Committee of the Ontario Homebuilder’s Association and
the municipal and immigration sections of the Ontario Bar Association. He writes
and speaks frequently on municipal and planning matters, and has taught a Law
and Planning Seminar at the University of Toronto, and Public Law in the former
Bar Admission Course. Ron has also served as member of the Immigration and
Refugee Board, Toronto and Metro Councillor, and Member of the Ontario
Legislature.
