From 1980-1991, John practiced as a member of the Corporate Law Department of Litton Industries Inc., a Fortune 100 corporation. Reporting to Litton's corporate headquarters in Beverly Hills, John acted as Vice President and Division Counsel to Litton Systems Canada Limited, a $450 million per year - 4,000 employee aerospace, defence electronics, and system integration company located in Toronto. While with Litton, John structured, negotiated, and drafted some of the largest defence contracts ever awarded by the Canadian Government, including the $1.2 billion dollar prime contract for the Tribal Class (DDH-280) Update and Modernization Program (TRUMP).

In 1991, John moved to San Diego to practice with Science Applications International Corp, a diversified Fortune 500 research, development, and engineering company. While with SAIC, John provided advice related to the sale of services in the national security, energy, environmental, and healthcare fields.

John returned to Toronto in 1993 to join a mid sized, Bay Street, commercial law firm where he practiced for 13 years. During this time, John:

  • represented Canadian and U.S. clients in diverse manufacturing and service industry segments, including clients in the material science, aerospace, defence, information technology, software, and apparel industries;
  • structured, negotiated, and drafted a complex medical technology development, license, and commercialization agreement for a large Toronto hospital to implement a $100 million dollar medical technology development program involving eight of Canada’s largest high technology companies;
  • acted as co-leader of a team which obtained the largest judgment ever awarded against a Crown Corporation and the Canadian Government related to a government contract (Amertek v. Canadian Commercial Corporation).

John joined the firm in 2006 and continues to practice corporate commercial, business, intellectual property, privacy, and government procurement law.
